Be a Guardian to Promote the Truth & Combat Disinformation

At the heart of the fight against authoritarianism is a battle for the truth and who decides its meaning. There are few precious rights as sacred as our rights to a free press, free speech, free assembly, and the right to vote; precisely because these represent the right to live in a truthful world based on facts and empirical reality, not by the political control of a Tyrant.

Ways to Bear Witness, Spread Truth & Combat Misinformation

  • Utilize best practices in effective communication to inform the broader activist community and general public by providing useful and factual information that informs rather than incites, that provokes thoughtful consideration rather than knee-jerk reaction, that dimensionalizes and clarifies complex realities rather promoting false binaries which further exacerbate polarization.

  • Create and publish information and content to promote truthful narratives and factual reality.

  • Source, republish, promote and amplify content and voices that support truthful narratives and factual reality; create online environments of constructive engagement and refrain from vitriol.

  • Call out and challenge inadvertent misinformation and falsehoods; Ignore propaganda and provocation and avoid engagement to avoid attention that amplifies the wrong voices.

  • Conduct training to teach and use best practices in identifying misinformation, propaganda, trolls, and how to effectively combat these elements without amplifying or supporting them.

  • Be human and compassionate in your interactions with others; seek to listen and inform, not proselytize or shout down; Conversion and persuasion begins with compassion and respect.
